Has anybody changed oil seals of valves while engine head is still attached to engine?
I tried, but did not have proper tools to release valve spring locking clips.
The hydraulic valve clearance body makes working area quite crowded.
If the spring is released, the seal is going to be some 60mm? deep hole.
How it is supposed to be removed at the bottom of hole?
My Country is 250000 km and is needing several fill ups between oil
changes. I thought valve oil seals would make good canditate for leak,
or what do you think?
Any thought would be appriciated.

Hi, Latinei
1 litre oil on 1000 km is normal. so dont worry. mine takes it too and as long the engine runs perfectly, why worry? your car is 20 years old! if it leaks the oil, i would rather change the head-gasket than the valve seals.
but in any case, i think its easier to remove the engine head and have it repaired for you. cause a small mistake can lead to a huge damage.
have a nice day, Martin _________________ Gruß, Martin

Hello,
Thank you for comments. Cerntainly I believe principle " don't fix things that aint broken", but there might be some things that are favour of seal repair.
One thing is I think catalytic converter don't like oil, or is it just unburned oil that is harmful for it. At least some owners manual warns for overfill engine oil because serious hazard to CAT.
Other things is the smoke behind the car. I think it is bad "publicity" for Country's or any older car burn oil, there is enogh unjustified bad talk
about old cars destroying environment.
And finally, in general terms, the change of the valve seals is not very big job, that usually fixes smoking problem, but this time the construction seem to call some special equipment.
Has anybody access to factory shop manual, if there is description for tool to use release valve locking clips?
Still values any input anybody might have.
Kind regards,
Ismo |

Oops, well this might defenitely be a reason to have a look at the seals, I admit
I'll translate for the guys here, 'cause some don't understand English.
Also, an unsere deutschen Autoschrauber, welches Werkzeug wird benötigt, um die Ventilhalterungen und Ventilfedern zu entspannen? Oder kann jemand beschreiben, wie das Teil aussieht?
