Verfasst am: 27.05.2013 16:55 Titel: A KR engine (1,8l, 16 V) in a Country, with Digifant 2... |

|
I am Country owner since 2005, and I have others Golf mark 2 with KR engine….
I‘ve found that, unfortunately, the 1P motor in not too strong to pull correctly the Country… With more than 350 kg than a classic Golf mark 2, the little 1P with 98hp is really….light…very light...
You should always whip it to drive…. The lesser hill and you finish in 3rd gear…. the engine is out....of breath...
I have 2 others Golf mark 2 in KR motor (16v), with 140 hp in kjetronic in origin configuration…. And another with 190hp en 45mm Weber… for pleasure and racing circuit..
I rebuilt these engines, with pleasure…. And I wanted to try a KR in the Country… but not with a Kjetronic system (like the Golf mark 2 16V).. just by using the oem Digifant 2….
You keep the fuel pump, and a lot of others elements….
You only have to build an exhaust pipe to join on the original exhaust system…
Change the chip in the digifant 2 to manage the new engine…(Bolku racing, Nl)
You keep the 1P injectors; just add a new fuel manifold ….easy to find and to put on the intake pipe… You can easily reverse the swap.... 'cause you don't cut any wires... you use the same wires for the KR engine..
Just plug and play...
You have now 150 hp (with Digifant 2 chip special swap)…
Result, a big pleasure to ride… the engine is strong, you keep the 5th gear… and you don’t whip the engine… 8l/100km….A little more than 600km with a full tank… impossible with the 1P…. hardly 500 km…and not very often..
The engine is softer… you can picked up since 1500/rm in 5th gear without a vibration… the engine doesn't knock in the frame...
It’s now for me a new pleasure to drive my Country.
Several pictures… to show the new engine… I rebuild it totally with news parts…
If you're interested.... I'm here to answer |

Wow, very nice conversion!
Isn't the 16V block also missing a mounting boss in back that the support bracket for the syncro angle drive bolts onto? |

No, all the 3 mounts are similar and the engine find his place... naturally.. all 1,8l blocks are similar...
It's an easy conversion... you keep all the OEM parts...
The only problem is the exhaust pipe... to keep the original exhaust system, you must make it... You have to find a good professionnal...
Now, if I want, tomorrow, put back in the 1P... I can make it... without adaptation... no hoses, wires cut .
I wanted to keep the original configuration.... without definitive transformations... _________________ My Golf Mark 2... and my Country...

I also have a Rallye, and it has a 16V G60 conversion. I forget which 16V block we used, but it was missing the upper mounting point for the support bracket like I described. I'll have to post a pic.
We modified the Rallye downpipe to work with a Scirocco 16V exhaust manifold, but I like your method also. I picked up a similar manifold to yours that will work with a stock Rallye downpipe, I'll post pics of it later as well. |
