Hi all and sorry about English,

My local parts dealer said, there is no head lights switch available from vw any more(since last year).

My car is self imported from Germany, so it has no light automatic,
ie. head lights are on, if switch is on, regardless if ignition is on or off.

Anybody knows if switch is available somewhere? I can get third party switch here, but it is "Finnish" variant, so it does not work in my car.

Hi Ismo,

the problem might not be the light switch but a relay stuck in "on" position.
Check the relay on position no. 4, should be signed "18" according to my wiring diagram!

Hi Dietrich and others,

Lights are working. switch was stuck, ie did not move. I opened, and need to trim it bit to make it movable, but it showed quite some wear, so thought I would have a new switch.

I had one spare "Finnish" switch, this only gave me parking lights. It had also some wear, but metal parts inside had different configuration, this switch had two separate contact metals, where as cars original switch had one piece connecting all contacts of the unit except those for instrument lights dimmer.

Dietrich, did you meant, that if relay is stuck, one could get behavior where headlights are on, and this is not how they supposed to work for Country's in Germany?

I will check the mentioned relay.

I thought if this switch is available in some third party parts dealer in Germany, mayby it would be right kind, since "Finnish" variant is available here. I quess this is same komponent than any late Golf II would have.
